Dynamic Cables Limited's (NSE:DYCL) P/E Is Still On The Mark Following 39% Share Price Bounce
Despite an already strong run, Dynamic Cables Limited (NSE:DYCL) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 39% in the last thirty days. The annual gain comes to 149% following the latest surge, making investors sit up and take notice.
Since its price has surged higher, given close to half the companies in India have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") below 32x, you may consider Dynamic Cables as a stock to avoid entirely with its 54.6x P/E ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.
Recent times have been quite advantageous for Dynamic Cables as its earnings have been rising very briskly. The P/E is probably high because investors think this strong earnings growth will be enough to outperform the broader market in the near future. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Dynamic Cables' P/E ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver very strong growth, and importantly, perform much better than the market.
If we review the last year of earnings growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 38%. Pleasingly, EPS has also lifted 124% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have probably welcomed those medium-term rates of earnings growth.
Weighing that recent medium-term earnings trajectory against the broader market's one-year forecast for expansion of 26% shows it's noticeably more attractive on an annualised basis.
In light of this, it's understandable that Dynamic Cables' P/E sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting this strong growth to continue and are willing to pay more for the stock.
The Bottom Line On Dynamic Cables' P/E
The strong share price surge has got Dynamic Cables' P/E rushing to great heights as well. It's argued the price-to-earnings ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.
As we suspected, our examination of Dynamic Cables revealed its three-year earnings trends are contributing to its high P/E, given they look better than current market expectations. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/E as they are quite confident earnings aren't under threat. If recent medium-term earnings trends continue, it's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for Dynamic Cables (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you need to be mindful of.
