If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out SIG Combibloc Group (VTX:SIGN) Before It's Too Late
Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like SIG Combibloc Group (VTX:SIGN). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

SIG Combibloc Group's Improving Profits
Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So it's no surprise that some investors are more inclined to invest in profitable businesses. Like a falcon taking flight, SIG Combibloc Group's EPS soared from €0.29 to €0.46, over the last year. That's a commendable gain of 61%.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note SIG Combibloc Group's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 4.4% to €1.9b. That's a real positive.

Are SIG Combibloc Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a CHF9.4b company like SIG Combibloc Group. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. To be specific, they have €30m worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Despite being just 0.3% of the company, the value of that investment is enough to show insiders have plenty riding on the venture.
Should You Add SIG Combibloc Group To Your Watchlist?
For growth investors like me, SIG Combibloc Group's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. It's still necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk.
