Insiders In Yari Minerals Left Out From 33% Price Rise After Disposing Stock
Last week, Yari Minerals Limited's (ASX:YAR) stock jumped 33%, but insiders who sold AU$332k worth of stock in over the past year are likely to be in a better position. Selling at an average price of AU$0.0062, which is higher than the current price, may have been the best move for these insiders because their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Yari Minerals Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The insider, Stephen Copulos, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for AU$332k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.016 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is AU$0.004. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Stephen Copulos was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership Of Yari Minerals
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Yari Minerals insiders own about AU$284k worth of shares. That equates to 20% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
So What Do The Yari Minerals Insider Transactions Indicate?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Yari Minerals shares in the last quarter. Still, the insider transactions at Yari Minerals in the last 12 months are not very heartening. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort.
