Evergy Insiders Sold US$4.1m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy
The fact that multiple Evergy, Inc. (NASDAQ:EVRG) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Evergy
The Executive Vice President of Corporate Initiatives, Kevin Bryant, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.0m worth of shares at a price of US$62.93 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$65.00. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was 100% of Kevin Bryant's holding.

Evergy Insiders Are Selling The Stock
The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Evergy shares. Specifically, insiders ditched US$3.6m worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.
Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 0.3% of Evergy shares, worth about US$45m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

Insiders sold Evergy shares recently, but they didn't buy any. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. But it is good to see that Evergy is growing earnings. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. We'd practice some caution before buying!
