Here's Why Beazer Homes USA (NYSE:BZH) Is Weighed Down By Its Debt Load

How Healthy Is Beazer Homes USA's Balance Sheet?

We can see from the most recent balance sheet that Beazer Homes USA had liabilities of US$254.6m falling due within a year, and liabilities of US$1.16b due beyond that. On the other hand, it had cash of US$73.2m and US$66.2m worth of receivables due within a year. So it has liabilities totalling US$1.28b more than its cash and near-term receivables, combined.

Given this deficit is actually higher than the company's market capitalization of US$973.3m, we think shareholders really should watch Beazer Homes USA's debt levels, like a parent watching their child ride a bike for the first time. In the scenario where the company had to clean up its balance sheet quickly, it seems likely shareholders would suffer extensive dilution.
