EQT AB (publ) Just Missed EPS By 74%: Here's What Analysts Think Will Happen Next
It's shaping up to be a tough period for EQT AB (publ) (STO:EQT), which a week ago released some disappointing full-year results that could have a notable impact on how the market views the stock. Results showed a clear earnings miss, with €2.1b revenue coming in 5.8% lower than what the analystsexpected. Statutory earnings per share (EPS) of €0.12 missed the mark badly, arriving some 74% below what was expected. This is an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance in its report, look at what experts are forecasting for next year, and see if there has been any change to expectations for the business. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year.

Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from EQT's ten analysts is for revenues of €2.66b in 2024. This would reflect a major 27% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to jump 747% to €0.99. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of €2.77b and earnings per share (EPS) of €1.10 in 2024. The analysts are less bullish than they were before these results, given the reduced revenue forecasts and the minor downgrade to earnings per share expectations.
Despite the cuts to forecast earnings, there was no real change to the kr291 price target, showing that the analysts don't think the changes have a meaningful impact on its intrinsic value. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. Currently, the most bullish analyst values EQT at kr361 per share, while the most bearish prices it at kr197. So we wouldn't be assigning too much credibility to analyst price targets in this case, because there are clearly some widely different views on what kind of performance this business can generate. As a result it might not be a great idea to make decisions based on the consensus price target, which is after all just an average of this wide range of estimates.
These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the EQT's past performance and to peers in the same industry. The period to the end of 2024 brings more of the same, according to the analysts, with revenue forecast to display 27% growth on an annualised basis. That is in line with its 34% annual growth over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to see their revenues grow 14% per year. So it's pretty clear that EQT is forecast to grow substantially faster than its industry.
The Bottom Line
The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for EQT. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, but the latest forecasts still imply the business will grow faster than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.
With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have forecasts for EQT going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
