Slammed 26% YG Plus, Inc. (KRX:037270) Screens Well Here But There Might Be A Catch
YG Plus, Inc. (KRX:037270) shares have retraced a considerable 26% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 17% share price drop.
In spite of the heavy fall in price, it's still not a stretch to say that YG Plus' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.3x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Media industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 1.4x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How YG Plus Has Been Performing
For example, consider that YG Plus' financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. It might be that many expect the company to put the disappointing revenue performance behind them over the coming period, which has kept the P/S from falling. If you like the company, you'd at least be hoping this is the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

YG Plus' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.
In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 17%. Even so, admirably revenue has lifted 54% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a very good job of growing revenue over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.
This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 1.7% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.
With this information, we find it interesting that YG Plus is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.
What We Can Learn From YG Plus' P/S?
YG Plus' plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
We didn't quite envision YG Plus' P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. It'd be fair to assume that potential risks the company faces could be the contributing factor to the lower than expected P/S. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.
