Insider Buyers Lose AU$173k As Terra Metals Sheds AU$1.2m
Insiders who acquired AU$458.0k worth of Terra Metals Limited's (ASX:TM1) stock at an average price of AU$0.042 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 10% price decline. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth AU$284.6k which is not ideal.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Terra Metals Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Chairman Ian Middlemas for AU$116k worth of shares, at about AU$0.035 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of AU$0.026. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
While Terra Metals insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Their average price was about AU$0.042. Does Terra Metals Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 11% of Terra Metals shares, worth about AU$1.2m, according to our data. However, it's possible that insiders might have an indirect interest through a more complex structure. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
