What Does The Institutional Ownership Tell Us About Star Cement?

Institutions typically measure themselves against a benchmark when reporting to their own investors, so they often become more enthusiastic about a stock once it's included in a major index. We would expect most companies to have some institutions on the register, especially if they are growing.

As you can see, institutional investors have a fair amount of stake in Star Cement. This suggests some credibility amongst professional investors. But we can't rely on that fact alone since institutions make bad investments sometimes, just like everyone does. If multiple institutions change their view on a stock at the same time, you could see the share price drop fast. It's therefore worth looking at Star Cement's earnings history below. We note that hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in Star Cement. Because actions speak louder than words, we consider it a good sign when insiders own a significant stake in a company. In Star Cement's case, its Top Key Executive, Sajjan Bhajanka, is the largest shareholder, holding 12% of shares outstanding. Prem Bhajanka is the second largest shareholder owning 10% of common stock, and SBI Funds Management Limited holds about 6.0% of the company stock. Interestingly, the second-largest shareholder, Prem Bhajanka is also Senior Key Executive, again, pointing towards strong insider ownership amongst the company's top shareholders.

We also observed that the top 8 shareholders account for more than half of the share register, with a few smaller shareholders to balance the interests of the larger ones to a certain extent.
