Aker Solutions ASA (OB:AKSO) shareholders will have a reason to smile today, with the analysts making substantial upgrades to this year's statutory forecasts. Consensus estimates suggest investors could expect greatly increased statutory revenues and earnings per share, with the analysts modelling a real improvement in business performance. Aker Solutions has also found favour with investors, with the stock up a worthy 11% to kr42.60 over the past week. We'll be curious to see if these new estimates convince the market to lift the stock price higher still.

Following the upgrade, the latest consensus from Aker Solutions' eleven analysts is for revenues of kr47b in 2024, which would reflect a notable 18% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are presumed to jump 150% to kr5.00. Prior to this update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of kr42b and earnings per share (EPS) of kr4.14 in 2024. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

Despite these upgrades, the analysts have not made any major changes to their price target of kr50.17, suggesting that the higher estimates are not likely to have a long term impact on what the stock is worth.

Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. The analysts are definitely expecting Aker Solutions' growth to accelerate, with the forecast 25% annualised growth to the end of 2024 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 8.9% per annum over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 5.0% per year. Factoring in the forecast acceleration in revenue, it's pretty clear that Aker Solutions is expected to grow much faster than its industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away from this upgrade is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates for this year, expecting improving business conditions. Fortunately, analysts also upgraded their revenue estimates, and our data indicates sales are expected to perform better than the wider market. Some investors might be disappointed to see that the price target is unchanged, but we feel that improving fundamentals are usually a positive - assuming these forecasts are met! So Aker Solutions could be a good candidate for more research.

Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Aker Solutions going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here..
