By selling US$2.8m worth of HyreCar Inc. (NASDAQ:HYRE) stock at an average sell price of US$16.95 over the last year, insiders seemed to have made the most of their holdings. After the stock price dropped 10% last week, the company's market value declined by US$18m, but insiders were able to mitigate their losses.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

HyreCar Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The insider, Robert Brogi, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.2m worth of shares at a price of US$17.17 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$7.20). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership of HyreCar

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. HyreCar insiders own about US$13m worth of shares. That equates to 8.6% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
