He served as the Supervisory Board Member at LyondellBasell Industries N.V. He joined LyondellBasell Industries N.V. in March 2010. Mr. Patel served as its Executive Vice President of Olefins and Polyolefins - EAI & Technology since October 1, 2013 and served as its Member of Management Board since April 2014 until January 2015. Mr. Patel served as Senior Vice President of Olefins & Polyolefins (O&P) - Europe, Asia for International and Technology at LyondellBasell Industries N.V. since November 9, 2010 until October 1, 2013. Mr. Patel served as Senior Vice President, Olefins and Polyolefins - Americas at LyondellBasell Industries N.V. from March 2010 to June 2011. Most recently, he served as General Manager, Olefins and NGLs for Chevron Phillips Chemical Company where he was responsible for all aspects of one of its largest business lines including strategic planning feedstock procurement, base chemicals marketing and pipeline system management. Previously he served as a General Manager, Asia Pacific Region, based in Singapore, where he led all of it's activities in the region including joint ventures, manufacturing and marketing. He has more than 20 years with Chevron Corp. and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, have afforded him extensive leadership experience on a global basis and a detailed understanding of the chemical, plastics, and refining industries and the Company’s operations in particular. Since joining Chevron Phillips Chemical and Chevron Chemical Company in 1990, he held a number of manufacturing, marketing, strategic planning, business management and general management positions. He serves as a Director of Greater Houston Partnership, Inc. He has been a Director of Union Pacific Corporation since July 26, 2017. He is a member of the external advisory council of The Ohio State University's College of Engineering and a member of the dean's advisory council for the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Mr. Patel received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University. He also holds a Master's in Business Administration from the Temple University.

LyondellBasell Industries N.V. operates as a chemical company worldwide. The company operates in six segments: Olefins and Polyolefins—Americas; Olefins and Polyolefins—Europe, Asia, International; Intermediates and Derivatives; Advanced Polymer Solutions; Refining; and Technology. It produces and markets olefins and co-products; polyethylene products, which consist of high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, and linear low density polyethylene; and polypropylene (PP) products, such as PP homopolymers and copolymers. The company also produces and sells propylene oxide and its derivatives; oxyfuels and related products; and intermediate chemicals, such as styrene monomers, methanol products, glacial acetic acids, vinyl acetate monomers, and ethylene oxides and derivatives. Further, it produces and markets compounds and solutions, such as polypropylene compounds, engineered plastics, masterbatches, engineered composites, colors, and powders; and advanced polymers. In addition, the company refines crude oil and other crude oils of varied types and sources into gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel; develops and licenses chemical and polyolefin process technologies; and manufactures and sells polyolefin catalysts, as well as purchases and sells ethylene. LyondellBasell Industries N.V. was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.
