Youngevity International, Inc. (NASDAQ:YGYI) Insiders Have Been Selling

We’ve lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we’ll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Youngevity International, Inc. (NASDAQ:YGYI).

Do Insider Transactions Matter?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock on the market. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that ‘insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company‚Äôs stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers’.

Youngevity International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by Carl Grover for US$3.5m worth of shares, at about US$16.57 per share. That is hardly a positive sign, even though it took place above the latest price (US$7.12). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Carl Grover was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Youngevity International insiders own about US$125m worth of shares (which is 68% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Youngevity International Insider Transactions Indicate?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven’t been buying. And there weren’t any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we’re a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. Of course, the future is what matters most.
