Excelerate Energy's (NYSE:EE) Upcoming Dividend Will Be Larger Than Last Year's
The board of Excelerate Energy, Inc. (NYSE:EE) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of $0.08 on the 4th of September, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. Although the dividend is now higher, the yield is only 0.9%, which is below the industry average.
Excelerate Energy's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings
If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. However, prior to this announcement, Excelerate Energy's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.
The next year is set to see EPS grow by 24.4%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 18% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Excelerate Energy Doesn't Have A Long Payment History
The dividend hasn't seen any major cuts in the past, but the company has only been paying a dividend for 3 years, which isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. The annual payment during the last 3 years was $0.10 in 2022, and the most recent fiscal year payment was $0.24. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 34% over that duration. The dividend has been growing rapidly, however with such a short payment history we can't know for sure if payment can continue to grow over the long term, so caution may be warranted.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. The business has been going well, which we can see by the fact that EPS has risen by 34% in the last year. It's unusual for a company to continue this long term, but we won't complain when it happens. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock. However, we would never make any decisions based on only a single year of data, especially when assessing long term dividend potential.
Excelerate Energy Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. Earnings growth generally bodes well for the future value of company dividend payments.
