SLM Executive VP & COO Kerri Palmer Sells 67% Of Holding
We wouldn't blame SLM Corporation (NASDAQ:SLM) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Kerri Palmer, the Executive VP & COO recently netted about US$1.8m selling shares at an average price of US$32.21. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 67% of their entire holding.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At SLM
In fact, the recent sale by Kerri Palmer was the biggest sale of SLM shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$31.23. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.
Over the last year we saw more insider selling of SLM shares, than buying. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that SLM insiders own 1.0% of the company, worth about US$66m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
