TH International Limited (NASDAQ:THCH) Stock's 26% Dive Might Signal An Opportunity But It Requires Some Scrutiny
To the annoyance of some shareholders, TH International Limited (NASDAQ:THCH) shares are down a considerable 26% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 56% loss during that time.
After such a large drop in price, when close to half the companies operating in the United States' Hospitality industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 1.5x, you may consider TH International as an enticing stock to check out with its 0.4x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does TH International's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
For example, consider that TH International's financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. It might be that many expect the disappointing revenue performance to continue or accelerate, which has repressed the P/S. However, if this doesn't eventuate then existing shareholders may be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

TH International's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 2.1% decrease to the company's top line. However, a few very strong years before that means that it was still able to grow revenue by an impressive 193% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a very good job of growing revenue over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.
Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 14% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.
With this information, we find it odd that TH International is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. It looks like most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.
The Bottom Line On TH International's P/S
TH International's recently weak share price has pulled its P/S back below other Hospitality companies. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.
Our examination of TH International revealed its three-year revenue trends aren't boosting its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current industry expectations. When we see robust revenue growth that outpaces the industry, we presume that there are notable underlying risks to the company's future performance, which is exerting downward pressure on the P/S ratio. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see a lot of volatility.
