Possible Bearish Signals With M.D.C. Holdings Insiders Disposing Stock
Many M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:MDC) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

M.D.C. Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The President, David Mandarich, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$6.5m worth of shares at a price of US$41.45 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$39.34. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders.
