Is Now The Time To Put Comp (WSE:CMP) On Your Watchlist?

Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Comp (WSE:CMP). While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

Comp's Improving Profits

Comp has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. As a result, we'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. In impressive fashion, Comp's EPS grew from zł1.56 to zł2.94, over the previous 12 months. It's not often a company can achieve year-on-year growth of 89%.

Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. Despite consistency in EBIT margins year on year, Comp has actually recorded a dip in revenue. While this may raise concerns, investors should investigate the reasoning behind this.

Are Comp Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It's a necessity that company leaders act in the best interest of shareholders and so insider investment always comes as a reassurance to the market. Shareholders will be pleased by the fact that insiders own Comp shares worth a considerable sum. To be specific, they have zł79m worth of shares. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. That amounts to 6.7% of the company, demonstrating a degree of high-level alignment with shareholders.

Should You Add Comp To Your Watchlist?

Comp's earnings have taken off in quite an impressive fashion. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders should certainly brighten the view of the company. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So at the surface level, Comp is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies.
