The subdued stock price reaction suggests that Dekpol S.A.'s (WSE:DEK) strong earnings didn't offer any surprises. Investors are probably missing some underlying factors which are encouraging for the future of the company.
Zooming In On Dekpol's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. In plain english, this ratio subtracts FCF from net profit, and divides that number by the company's average operating assets over that period. You could think of the accrual ratio from cashflow as the 'non-FCF profit ratio'.
Therefore, it's actually considered a good thing when a company has a negative accrual ratio, but a bad thing if its accrual ratio is positive. While having an accrual ratio above zero is of little concern, we do think it's worth noting when a company has a relatively high accrual ratio. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future".
Over the twelve months to September 2025, Dekpol recorded an accrual ratio of -0.23. That implies it has very good cash conversion, and that its earnings in the last year actually significantly understate its free cash flow. In fact, it had free cash flow of zł274m in the last year, which was a lot more than its statutory profit of zł112.9m. Given that Dekpol had negative free cash flow in the prior corresponding period, the trailing twelve month resul of zł274m would seem to be a step in the right direction.

Our Take On Dekpol's Profit Performance
Happily for shareholders, Dekpol produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. Because of this, we think Dekpol's underlying earnings potential is as good as, or possibly even better, than the statutory profit makes it seem! And on top of that, its earnings per share have grown at 30% per year over the last three years. At the end of the day, it's essential to consider more than just the factors above, if you want to understand the company properly.
