Sinfonia TechnologyLtd's (TSE:6507) Dividend Will Be Increased To ¥120.00

The board of Sinfonia Technology Co.,Ltd. (TSE:6507) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥120.00 on the 30th of June, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 1.2% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.

Sinfonia TechnologyLtd's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

The dividend yield is a little bit low, but sustainability of the payments is also an important part of evaluating an income stock. However, prior to this announcement, Sinfonia TechnologyLtd's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 12.8%. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 28% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Dividend Volatility

While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of ¥15.00 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of ¥120.00. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 23% over that duration. Despite the rapid growth in the dividend over the past number of years, we have seen the payments go down the past as well, so that makes us cautious.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. We are encouraged to see that Sinfonia TechnologyLtd has grown earnings per share at 36% per year over the past five years. Earnings per share is growing at a solid clip, and the payout ratio is low which we think is an ideal combination in a dividend stock as the company can quite easily raise the dividend in the future.

We Really Like Sinfonia TechnologyLtd's Dividend

Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
