TS TECH's (TSE:7313) Dividend Will Be Increased To ¥46.00

Simply Wall St

The board of TS TECH Co., Ltd. (TSE:7313) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥46.00 on the 5th of June, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This makes the dividend yield 5.1%, which is above the industry average.

Estimates Indicate TS TECH's Could Struggle to Maintain Dividend Payments In The Future

If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Based on the last payment, earnings were actually smaller than the dividend, and the company was actually spending more cash than it was making. This high of a dividend payment could start to put pressure on the balance sheet in the future.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 34.1%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could reach 160%, which probably can't continue without putting some pressure on the balance sheet.

TS TECH Has A Solid Track Record

The company has been paying a dividend for a long time, and it has been quite stable which gives us confidence in the future dividend potential. The dividend has gone from an annual total of ¥30.00 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of ¥92.00. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 12% over that duration. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.

Dividend Growth Is Doubtful

Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. However, initial appearances might be deceiving. It's not great to see that TS TECH's earnings per share has fallen at approximately 5.3% per year over the past five years. A modest decline in earnings isn't great, and it makes it quite unlikely that the dividend will grow in the future unless that trend can be reversed. Earnings are forecast to grow over the next 12 months and if that happens we could still be a little bit cautious until it becomes a pattern.

TS TECH's Dividend Doesn't Look Sustainable

Overall, we always like to see the dividend being raised, but we don't think TS TECH will make a great income stock. We can't deny that the payments have been very stable, but we are a little bit worried about the very high payout ratio. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable.
