Premier Energies Insiders Sell ₹820m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
Many Premier Energies Limited (NSE:PREMIERENE) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Premier Energies
The insider, Vishnu Hazari, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for ₹652m worth of shares at a price of ₹1,035 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (₹1,089). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was 100% of Vishnu Hazari's holding.
Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Premier Energies shares, than buying. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Does Premier Energies Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Premier Energies insiders own about ₹332b worth of shares (which is 68% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Do The Premier Energies Insider Transactions Indicate?
