We Think Filatex India's (NSE:FILATEX) Profit Is Only A Baseline For What They Can Achieve
Investors were underwhelmed by the solid earnings posted by Filatex India Limited (NSE:FILATEX) recently. Our analysis says that investors should be optimistic, as the strong profit is built on solid foundations.
Examining Cashflow Against Filatex India's Earnings
One key financial ratio used to measure how well a company converts its profit to free cash flow (FCF) is the accrual ratio. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
Therefore, it's actually considered a good thing when a company has a negative accrual ratio, but a bad thing if its accrual ratio is positive. While having an accrual ratio above zero is of little concern, we do think it's worth noting when a company has a relatively high accrual ratio. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future".
Filatex India has an accrual ratio of -0.17 for the year to September 2025. That implies it has very good cash conversion, and that its earnings in the last year actually significantly understate its free cash flow. Indeed, in the last twelve months it reported free cash flow of ₹3.9b, well over the ₹1.76b it reported in profit. Filatex India shareholders are no doubt pleased that free cash flow improved over the last twelve months.

Our Take On Filatex India's Profit Performance
Happily for shareholders, Filatex India produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. Because of this, we think Filatex India's underlying earnings potential is as good as, or possibly even better, than the statutory profit makes it seem! And the EPS is up 53% over the last twelve months. At the end of the day, it's essential to consider more than just the factors above, if you want to understand the company properly. So if you'd like to dive deeper into this stock, it's crucial to consider any risks it's facing.
