The recent price decline of 10.0% in National United Resources Holdings Limited's (HKG:254) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought HK$80.5m worth of shares at an average price of HK$0.12 in the past 12 months. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth HK$18.9m, which is not great.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

National United Resources Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Jiayi Li for HK$81m worth of shares, at about HK$0.12 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being HK$0.027). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Jiayi Li was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.
