If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out China Resources Land (HKG:1109) Before It’s Too Late

Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like China Resources Land (HKG:1109), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While that doesn’t make the shares worth buying at any price, you can’t deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

China Resources Land’s Earnings Per Share Are Growing.

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It’s no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. Over the last three years, China Resources Land has grown EPS by 17% per year. That’s a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.

One way to double-check a company’s growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. The good news is that China Resources Land is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.1 percentage points to 37%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.
