Insiders who acquired CN¥547.7k worth of MetaLight Inc.'s (HKG:2605) stock at an average price of CN¥4.98 in the past 12 months may be dismayed by the recent 13% price decline. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth CN¥181.5k which is not ideal.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At MetaLight
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Non-Executive Director Xiaoling Huang for HK$528k worth of shares, at about HK$4.98 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$1.65. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Xiaoling Huang was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months. Notably Xiaoling Huang was also the biggest seller.
Xiaoling Huang purchased 110.00k shares over the year. The average price per share was HK$4.98. Insiders own 33% of MetaLight shares, worth about HK$83m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
