Over the last year, a good number of insiders have significantly increased their holdings in Vitasoy International Holdings Limited (HKG:345). This is encouraging because it indicates that insiders are more optimistic about the company's prospects.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Vitasoy International Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Non-Executive Director Anthony John Nightingale bought HK$4.1m worth of shares at a price of HK$20.28 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being HK$15.12). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Vitasoy International Holdings insiders own 18% of the company, currently worth about HK$2.9b based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
