The nature of investing is that you win some, and you lose some. Unfortunately, shareholders of BATM Advanced Communications Ltd. (LON:BVC) have suffered share price declines over the last year. The share price is down a hefty 69% in that time. We note that it has not been easy for shareholders over three years, either; the share price is down 42% in that time. Unfortunately the share price momentum is still quite negative, with prices down 22% in thirty days.

With the stock having lost 13% in the past week, it's worth taking a look at business performance and seeing if there's any red flags.

Our analysis indicates that BVC is potentially undervalued!

In his essay The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville Warren Buffett described how share prices do not always rationally reflect the value of a business. One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.

Unfortunately BATM Advanced Communications reported an EPS drop of 88% for the last year. The share price fall of 69% isn't as bad as the reduction in earnings per share. So despite the weak per-share profits, some investors are probably relieved the situation wasn't more difficult. With a P/E ratio of 51.81, it's fair to say the market sees an EPS rebound on the cards.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market lost about 2.3% in the twelve months, BATM Advanced Communications shareholders did even worse, losing 69% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 1.3%, each year, over five years. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For example, we've discovered 3 warning signs for BATM Advanced Communications (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
