There's Been No Shortage Of Growth Recently For Qwamplify's (EPA:ALQWA) Returns On Capital
Finding a business that has the potential to grow substantially is not easy, but it is possible if we look at a few key financial metrics. Firstly, we'll want to see a proven return on capital employed (ROCE) that is increasing, and secondly, an expanding base of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. So when we looked at Qwamplify (EPA:ALQWA) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.
What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Qwamplify:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.13 = €4.6m ÷ (€59m - €24m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to March 2022).
Thus, Qwamplify has an ROCE of 13%. That's a pretty standard return and it's in line with the industry average of 13%.

How Are Returns Trending?
We like the trends that we're seeing from Qwamplify. Over the last five years, returns on capital employed have risen substantially to 13%. The company is effectively making more money per dollar of capital used, and it's worth noting that the amount of capital has increased too, by 50%. So we're very much inspired by what we're seeing at Qwamplify thanks to its ability to profitably reinvest capital.
In another part of our analysis, we noticed that the company's ratio of current liabilities to total assets decreased to 41%, which broadly means the business is relying less on its suppliers or short-term creditors to fund its operations. So this improvement in ROCE has come from the business' underlying economics, which is great to see. However, current liabilities are still at a pretty high level, so just be aware that this can bring with it some risks.
Our Take On Qwamplify's ROCE
All in all, it's terrific to see that Qwamplify is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And since the stock has fallen 40% over the last five years, there might be an opportunity here. With that in mind, we believe the promising trends warrant this stock for further investigation.
