In 1996, he was appointed General Manager of the National Heritage department of the Treasury Ministry. He served as General Secretary of Banco Popular Español from 1998 to 2000. He serves as Chairman of the Boards of Directors of Logista, S.A. He served as Executive Chairman at Altadis S.A. from July 2000 to May 2005. He serves as Vice Chairman of Tempe S.A. He served as Co-Chairman of Group Management Committee at Altadis S.A. until May 2005. He served as Co-Chairman of Banco Popular Español. He serves as a Director of Stear S.A. and Denllo SA. He has been Executive Director of Industria de Diseno Textil SA since June 09, 2005. He served as Independent External Director at Telefónica, S.A. from April 12, 2002 to May 4, 2017. He served as a Director of IBERIA LAE SA (Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA) and Red Eléctrica Corporación S.A. He served as Executive director of Distribución Integral Logista Holdings, S.A. from July 31, 2000 to May 2005. He has a law degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
