What Viscom SE's (ETR:V6C) P/S Is Not Telling You
There wouldn't be many who think Viscom SE's (ETR:V6C) price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.2x is worth a mention when the median P/S for the Electronic industry in Germany is similar at about 0.4x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

What Does Viscom's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
With revenue growth that's inferior to most other companies of late, Viscom has been relatively sluggish. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to lift, which has kept the P/S from declining. However, if this isn't the case, investors might get caught out paying too much for the stock.

Viscom's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. Although pleasingly revenue has lifted 67% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. So while the company has done a solid job in the past, it's somewhat concerning to see revenue growth decline as much as it has.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the two analysts covering the company suggest revenue growth is heading into negative territory, declining 0.6% per annum over the next three years. That's not great when the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 14% each year.
With this information, we find it concerning that Viscom is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently many investors in the company reject the analyst cohort's pessimism and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Only the boldest would assume these prices are sustainable as these declining revenues are likely to weigh on the share price eventually.
What We Can Learn From Viscom's P/S?
Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
Our check of Viscom's analyst forecasts revealed that its outlook for shrinking revenue isn't bringing down its P/S as much as we would have predicted. When we see a gloomy outlook like this, our immediate thoughts are that the share price is at risk of declining, negatively impacting P/S. If the poor revenue outlook tells us one thing, it's that these current price levels could be unsustainable.
