Looking at WiseTech Global Limited's (ASX:WTC ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At WiseTech Global
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Charles Gibbon, for AU$200m worth of shares, at about AU$131 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (AU$116). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Charles Gibbon.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid AU$151k for 1.17k shares. But they sold 1.53m shares for AU$200m. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Does WiseTech Global Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. WiseTech Global insiders own 8.1% of the company, currently worth about AU$3.1b based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
